We want an alliance with Congress, says All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president Badruddin Ajmal

Ajmal said, "Preparations are afoot at the national level to give shape to a national grand alliance to be led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar."

STAFF REPORTERGUWAHATI: AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal said that his party wants to fight the coming panchayat and Lok Sabha polls in the state in alliance with the Congress even as the latter does not agree. The party held its general council meeting in Guwahati today. Addressing the media after the meeting, Ajmal said, "Preparations are afoot at the national level to give shape to a national grand alliance to be led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. However, the Congress and the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC have not extended their support to the grand alliance as yet. Even as the Congress betrayed us time and again in Assam, we would like the Congress to be part of any grand alliance in Assam, no matter who leads it. We feel that Congress should join the alliance to defeat the BJP in the interest of the nation." Ajmal also reacted to the Bharat Jodo Yatra being led by Rahul Gandhi from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, and the one from Dhurbi to Sadiya in Assam by the APCC. "We welcome the padayatra by Rahul Gandhi. However, the Congress does not have its support bases in all states where it has failed to take like-minded parties along with the Congress. This factor alone can be one of the reasons for the failure of his Bharat Jodo Yatra," he said. He said that the padayatra in Assam crossed Golokganj, Gauripur, Bilasipara etc. "However, their aim is not to unite India but to end the presence of the AIUDF in the State. The Congress leaders have been criticizing me, even though I am not holding power in the state. In the last Assembly poll in the state, we gave the Congress 12 seats where our grip was strong. We made them win all 12 seats. In the Lok Sabha election, if Congress does not opt for an alliance with like-minded parties, it will draw a blank. The Congress has no use to fight with us as their voters and ours are the same."Also Read: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expresses sympathy with Pilot, says 'next Amarinder Singh of Congress' will be from RajasthanAlso Watch:
