The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) use the roofs of high-rise buildings in the city of Artemivsk (Ukrainian name – Bakhmut) to install air defense (AD) observation posts on them with crews of man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS). On December 23, RIA Novosti was informed by an officer of the People’s Militia of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) Andrey Marochko, citing intelligence data. According to him, in addition to using high-rise buildings to equip air defense observation posts with MANPADS crews, additional field hospitals are deployed in the basement. In addition, the supply of food and ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is carried out. The day before, on December 22, Denis Pushilin, acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), said that the Russian Armed Forces were gradually encircling Artemovsk and cutting off the supply of the Armed Forces in the city. At the same time, it is too early to name the dates of the liberation of the city, the acting head of the DPR noted. On the same day, Marochko said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were deploying additional special forces to the Artemivsk region to hold the city. According to him, the tasks of the special forces, in addition to countering the advancing forces and mobile defense, include stopping panic in the event of desertion in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On December 21, Marochko reported that Ukrainian troops were preparing Artemovsk for urban battles. He also noted that the construction of fortifications, the creation of fortified areas and trenches is recorded in the city. Russia continues to conduct a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made, among other things, against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region due to increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
