ASESWU has announced that it will take part in the padayatra organized by the AAGNPSEA on November 8 in support of replacing the NPS (National Pension System) with the OPS

STAFF REPORTERGUWAHATI: The Assam State Electricity Supply Workers' Union (ASESWU) has announced that it will take part in the padayatra organized by the All Assam Government NPS Employees' Association (AAGNPSEA) on November 8 in support of replacing the NPS (National Pension System) with the OPS (Old Pension Scheme). The padayatra will be from Khanapara to Dispur. In a statement, ASESWU general secretary Dhruba Jyoti Sarma said that the organization has been staging protests for the last 18 years against the implementation of NPS in the power sector. However, neither the Centre nor the State Government has taken any step to protect the post-retirement interests of Government employees by restoring the secure OPS, Sarma said. As such, Sarma said that the power sector employees will join the AAGNPSEA because all sections of Government employees need to come together to fight for restoration of the OPS. According to AAGNPSEA sources, over 50,000 teachers, police personnel and other officials will join the padayatra. Over 100 employee leaders across the country, 100 leaders from various State Government employees and teacher organizations and prominent personalities will participate in the padayatra. Sarma further said that the ASESWU will also participate in a protest programme organized at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on November 23 by the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees, Engineers and Pensioners (NCCEEEP) to demand withdrawal of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022. He termed the Bill as a conspiracy to hand the power sector over to the private players. He opposed the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited's (APDCL) move of re-appointing retired officers to various posts on contractual basis. The APDCL should instead regularize the services of younger contractual employees, Sarma said. Also Read:   Employees to stage stir over National Pension System on August 22 in Assam Also Watch:
