A CORRESPONDENTLAKHIMPUR: Cheques under Assam Micro-Finance Incentive and Relief Scheme (AMFIRS) - 2021-2022, Category-II were distributed among the borrowers of microfinance loans in the Dhemaji district on Saturday. The distribution of the cheques under the AMFIRS - 2021-2022, Category-II was formally inaugurated by Sanjay Kishan, the Minister for Tea Tribes and Labour Welfare, who is also the Guardian Minister of the Dhemaji district. On this occasion, a ceremonial programme was organized in the Dhemaji District Auditorium under the auspices of the Finance Department of the Government of Assam and the Dhemaji district administration. Notably, a total of 4,668 women borrowers of the Dhemaji district have received the cheques under AMFIRS - 2021-2022, Category II. For this occasion, the Finance Department has released a fund amounting to Rs. 8.08 crore to the district. AMFIRS - 2021-2022, Category II includes borrowers whose payments are outstanding for one to 89 days and the rollout will cover 1.07 lakh beneficiaries across the State. Under this scheme, the borrowers have received a maximum amount of Rs 20,000 to pay their loans. Attending the event as chief guest, Minister Sanjay Kishan highly appreciated the spirit and courage of women to become self-dependant. "At present, the women of Assam are not confined to the four walls of the kitchen. Their involvement in the productive activities is a good sign for the progress of the State," the Minister said while calling upon them to resume their productive activities with new spirit and conviction. He added that the Government of Assam had decided to purchase mustard from the farmers this year. He called upon the farmers' community to be alert to avail the benefits of this new scheme. In the programme, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah was present as a special guest. He appreciated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for launching the AMFIRS for waiving the microfinance loans of the women in Assam by fulfilling the pre-poll promise. He said that the failure of paying the loans by 4668 women was not a good sign to the district. He called upon the women to invest their loans in productive activities with the right planning. Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji, Asim Kumar Bhattacharya, delivered the welcome address. He informed me that the cheques concerned would be given to the rest borrowers of the district from their respective Block Development Offices.
