A CORRESPONDENTTANGLA: Amidst the Diwali celebration, unidentified masked miscreants shot businessman Gautam Baruah and his wife Bobita Baruah at the latter's residence in the Jalukbari locality of Tangla town in the Udalguri district at about 11 pm on Tuesday. According to reports, both Gautam Baruah and his wife were shot from close range with a pistol and they received bullet injuries on their hands and are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guwahati. Family members stated that his wife Bobita Baruah received injury while resisting the attack. Meanwhile, Udalguri police officials have launched investigation into the matter. Udalguri Additional Superintendent of Police Bidyut Das Boro said, "There was a scuffle between the victim, Gautam Baruah and the unidentified youths who attacked the victim with a house cleaning mop and when the victim resisted, he was shot with a pistol that the youths were carrying. His wife also received injuries." He further ascertained that prima facie it appears to be a money-related matter. "However, we are looking into other possible angles," he added.
