Assam Rail Passengers’Association moves PM Modi for resuming train services

After making repeated requests to the Railway authority, MPs, the CM of Assam & PM Modi, the ARPA has once again knocked on the door of the Prime Minister to seek resumption of local trains of the State that were stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

STAFF REPORTERGUWAHATI: After making repeated requests to the Railway authority, MPs, the Chief Minister of Assam and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Assam Rail Passengers'Association (ARPA) has once again knocked on the door of the Prime Minister to seek resumption of local trains of the State that were stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In a recent letter to Modi, the ARPA alleged that the Railway authority has cancelled some essential inter-district and other local trains in Assam on the pretext of rationalizing the Railway Time Table 2021. The organization claimed that these important passenger trains were cancelled just to create the path for goods and long-distance mail/express trains. The ARPA further termed as a "false reply" the Railway authority's clarification that alternative arrangements were made for passengers who used the cancelled trains. The organization mentioned that not only local people but even MPs of the State are demanding immediate resumption of all pre-Covid trains. It made particular reference to the Guwahati-Bongaigaon, Alipurduar-Guwahati passenger, Dimapur-Mariani passenger etc. While seeking the Prime Minister's intervention to ensure resumption of the cancelled train services, the ARPA added that as many as 2.29 lakh local people have lost train facilities in the name of rationalization of the Railway Time Table.
